Seattle Mariners Avoid Arbitration with Key Pitcher, Utility Player

The 26-year-old Gilbert is an immense part of what the Mariners do, and is a key cog in one of the best starting rotations in baseball.

He made his debut in 2021, helping lead the Mariners to a 90-win season that year and a playoff berth in 2022.

Lifetime, he's 32-18 with a 3.76 ERA. He's made 32 starts each of the last two seasons and has made 88 starts total. Gilbert pairs with George Kirby to form one of the best pairs of young pitchers in the game. The team also has All-Star Luis Castillo and youngsters Bryan Woo and Bryce Miller.

Haggerty is now 29-years-old and has spent five years in the big leagues with the New York Mets and the Mariners. He was a huge part of the 2022 team that got to the playoffs but saw less time in 2023, playing in just 52 games because of injury.

Lifetime, he's a .238 hitter, but in that 2022 season, he hit .256 with five homers, 23 RBI and 13 stolen bases. Haggerty provides the ability to be a switch-hitter, play second base or any of the three outfield positions. He also runs extremely well and is valuable on the basepaths.

The M's finished 88-74 last season and missed the playoffs by 1.0 game.
