Leicester City manager Enzo Maresca expressed his admiration for Inter Milan midfielder Stefano Sensi while ruing the botched deadline-day move.

The Foxes tried to sign the 28-year-old based on the recommendation of their Italian coach.

Leicester struck an agreement with the Nerazzurri who gave the player the green light to fly to England.

Sensi landed in the East Midlands on deadline day and passed his medical test. Yet, the English club failed to untie the bureaucratic hurdles in time.

Due to Financial Fair Play restrictions, Leicester failed to finalize the signing of the former Sassuolo player who wound up remaining at Inter for the rest of the season.

In his pre-match press conference, Maresca was obviously disappointed with the outcome of the transfer saga.

Nevertheless, the former Juventus and Sevilla midfielder was in no mood to discuss the reasons behind the collapse of the transfer when pressed to comment on the situation.

“Sensi? The first question is usually about the injured players,” said Maresca jokingly via FcInterNews,

“I’m not going to talk about the transfer market and I don’t intend to judge it now.

“Let’s talk about our next opponents Stoke City. Maybe we’ll discuss the transfer market again later.

“I love Sensi, but he’s an Inter player. Let’s think about Stoke.

“Am I happy with the squad? We lost Cesare Casadei, but that’s how it is. We’ll find solutions.”

Casadei is a former Inter youth player who signed for Chelsea in 2022. He spent the first half of the season on loan at Leicester but the Blues decided to recall him in January.
