'I can fight,' Stefanos Tsitsipas gets a much-needed confidence boost as he defeated World No. 5 Alexander Zverev in Monte Carlo

Stefanos Tsitsipas continues his sensational run in the 2024 Monte-Carlo Masters as he defeated Germany’s Alexander Zverev in the round of 16 of the tournament yesterday. The Greek international won the match 7-5, 7-6(3) in straight sets.

The match was pretty competitive from the very beginning and both the players displayed exceptional tennis. However, Tsitsipas was able to outclass Zverev in this encounter.

This victory was indeed a major one for Stefanos Tsitsipas, as he had been struggling to win matches against the Top 5 players for over a year. Defeating Alexander Zverev, who is 5th on the ATP rankings, will definitely boost his confidence. After the match, Tsitsipas agreed that he was grateful to have been able to play the way he did today.

It’s a big one. It’s a big win. I’m grateful I was able to play the way I did today. It took a lot of mental strength throughout the entire match.. I felt dominant from the baseline. I was able to create pace and open the court. Obviously there’s more tennis to be played. I’m just excited for what the future holds. Today’s match was a great assessment of how well I can fight in the tough moments. Stefanos Tsitsipas said post match

It is visible that Tsitsipas is getting back to form slowly. He recently lost to Denis Shapalov in the first round of the Miami Open, the very last tournament that he took part in. Compared to that, he has made a massive improvement in Monte Carlo.

Stefanos Tsitsipas faces Karen Khachanov in the quarterfinals of the 2024 Monte-Carlo Masters

Tsitsipas will now face Karen Khachanov in the quarterfinals of the 2024 Monte-Carlo Masters on Friday. The two players have faced each other a total of eight times so far. Stefanos Tsitsipas has a 7-1 lead over the Russian-Armenian player as of now and thus has a statistical advantage over him. However, the current forms of the two players might have a different story to tell.

While the Greek ace’s form in general in the past few months has been questionable, he has impressed netizens with his performance in the 2024 Monte-Carlo Masters so far. He has defeated Laslo Djere, Tomas Martin Etcheverry and Alexander Zverev in the tournament so far.

Khachanov’s performance in the tournament so far has also been sensational. He defeated Cameron Norrie and Francisco Cerundolo in the first two rounds. He then shocked the world by defeating Daniil Medvedev in the round of 16, which can be considered as one of the major upsets of the tournament.
